Zagreb Wine Gourmet Weekend

Festival

Gliptoteka Hazu & Centar Kaptol

ZWGW is once again held in the Glyptotheque of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences, a unique venue with great historical value for the City of Zagreb and the Republic of Croatia. Its size and diversity makes it an ideal location for the Festival.

The Glyptotheque of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1937 under the name “Gypsotheque” to provide exhibition space for plaster casts of immovable monuments belonging to Croatian cultural heritage, a purpose which makes it unique in whole Croatia. It is located in the former tannery and leather manufacturing facility, whose construction began in 1864, but gradually expanded until it became the largest industrial plant in Zagreb. The fire of 1926 destroyed most of the plant, and in 1938 it was shut down. The founder of the Gypsotheque, Antun Bauer, initiated its move to the former tannery, which took place in 1940. During the World War II, the largest part of the facility was used as storage space, and since 1950 the Glyptotheque has been part of the Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences, as a museum of sculptures, exhibiting creative works of the sculptural art from the antiquity up to the present time. Sculpture Park designed by the Academy member Miroslav Begović was built next to the existing museum complex in 2000. Today, the Glyptotheque has a floor area of 14,000 square meters, where it keeps and exhibits the biggest collection of sculptures in Croatia (more than 13,000 exhibits), including both plaster casts and original works from the 19th and 20thcentury Croatian sculpture.

Part of this year’s ZWGW program is also organized in Centar Kaptol shopping mall, located right next to the Glyptotheque. It will host some of the culinary workshops, held at the Wine&Gastro Academy, as well as a few masterclass workshops and film screenings.

Central location, lots of space in the nearby parking garages, many of Zagreb’s best restaurants and bars within walking distance – these are just some of the advantages of this venue.

Based on last year’s experience, the exhibition area alignment will be optimized to ensure the best possible conditions for the exhibitors and visitors.
